Netafim is the global leader in smart irrigation solutions. It has 29 subsidiaries across the globe, one of which is Netafim South Africa with offices in Kraaifontein in the Western Cape and Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.
The company builds its success on three pillars – its quality products, the expertise of its employees, and years of accumulated knowledge and experience from designing and applying its products and systems.
Netafim South Africa has been serving South Africa and its neighbouring countries with irrigation solutions and services since 1992. In 2018, we were nominated as one of the top subsidiaries in the global company. At the premises in Kraaifontein, we house one of only 17 Netafim manufacturing plants across the globe.
A new concept
Netafim was founded in 1965 when it introduced the concept of drip irrigation to the world. Drip irrigation allows producers to apply precise and uniform amounts of water and nutrients directly to the root zone of plants. This brings higher yields, lower water use and less dependency on weather, enabling greater control over yields.
The use of drip irrigation enhances crop planning and irrigation scheduling, reduces manpower requirements, and costs and increases profitability. It further optimises moisture and aeration conditions and leads to a concentrated and efficient root zone.
The development of drip irrigation made possible Precision Fertigation™. This is the optimal root- zone management tool, delivering just the right combination of water and nutrients directly to the roots of each plant, according to the development cycles of your crops.
Excellence in Design
Netafim prides itself in the quality design and manufacture of its patented irrigation solutions. The company owns more than 250 patents and has more than 150 further patents in the pipeline. All products are ISO-certified and subject to a strict quality testing process.
Remember, the quality of a product depends on both its technical features and the way it is designed and manufactured. The way a dripper, for example, is designed and manufactured is the secret factor that makes the difference between a good quality and poor-quality dripper, if all technical aspects are equal. If the dripper flow path is not optimally designed and manufactured, clogging risk, for example, will be higher. Other specifications will have to be adjusted to compensate, which may have other detrimental effects on overall dripper efficiency.
Netafim’s employees, from its management to every technician, operates with a single goal in mind: to ensure constant, precise water delivery in order to help the farmer grow more with less.
A key part of this is the reliability that is built into Netafim’s drippers and sprinklers. All products are designed and manufactured to decrease clogging risk, and the use of high-quality, durable materials ensures that the longevity of each product can be guaranteed. Netafim products installed in fields, orchards and vineyards can be relied upon to deliver water and nutrients accurately and uniformly, season after season.

Given the strong reliance on expertise, the Netafim sales team is structured as technical advisors, rather than sales consultants. We sell our products through a retail network, while the agronomy and technical teams offers on-farm support. The team is structured like this to ensure that each end-user of a Netafim product has access to the expertise to apply the product optimally in order to get the maximum return on investment.
Netafim believes that it can make a difference not only as a technology provider, but also as a promoter of more sustainable practices. This is why we want to drive mass adoption of smart irrigation solutions to fight the scarcity of food water and land.
For more than 50 years, Netafim has been the leader in drip irrigation and other smart irrigation solutions. Some of the many irrigation solutions pioneered by the company include low flow dripper technology, pressure- compensating dripper technology, and turbulent dripper flow paths to lower the risk of clogging.
Netafim prides itself in playing a crucial role in the development of irrigation knowledge and trends in the various South African agricultural industries. Our approach is to support research that could improve the farmer’s position, assist in disseminating this research as well as actively taking part in research and developing new irrigation concepts.
More than drip
Driven by our slogan, ‘Grow more with less™’, our focus goes beyond drip irrigation. We offer holistic irrigation solutions to growers of all shapes and sizes. The aim? To empower these growers to grow more with less.
Our offer includes a wide range of leading irrigation and complementary solutions across all crops, conditions, and terrains. This includes drippers and driplines, micro and macro sprinklers, valves, filters, water meters, crop management technology (CMT) and ever-developing digital farming solutions.
Our greatest goal is to overcome stumbling blocks. Working in an agricultural environment, implies a host of physical challenges to irrigation and crop production in general. These are challenges such as dripper clogging, root penetration, sloping fields or orchards, poor water quality, low water pressure and more. In our products, technology and clever solutions are used to overcome these challenges. Solutions come in the form of pressure-compensated drippers, high durability driplines, fully automatic self-cleaning disc filters, ultrasonic bulk water meters, reliable and durable sprinklers and much more.
The distinction of Netafim’s solutions from other irrigation products lies in the reliability of its products add value it adds on farm level. Netafim adds value to agriculture around the globe with the production of more than 20 billion drippers per year. In South Africa, Netafim adds value by making irrigation solutions, be it drippers or sprinklers, available for around 30 000 hectares of new or replacement plantings per year. Drip technology has developed massively in the recent years. One of the most important developments in drip irrigation is low flow drippers, an area in which Netafim plays a leading role. We can now accommodate lower flow rates in drippers without increased fear of dripper clogging as Netafim’s low flow drip technology makes it possible to implement low flow rates, while maintaining clog resistant flow path dimensions.
This development has made it necessary to rethink irrigation strategies, to fully utilise the potential of this technology. Several of Netafim South Africa’s experts have been working hard to develop the pioneering Centralised Low Flow Drip Fertigation concept to lead the industry in making full use of low flow drip technology.
