Internet Connectivity Anywhere, Any Time

Maxwell Technology was launched in 2007 as an independent provider of last-mile, satellite-based, connectivity and access solutions for their mining and engineering clients in Africa.

Maxwell quickly evolved to a full-spectrum, end-to-end connectivity solutions provider to clients from predominantly un-served and under-served areas. It currently offers a spectrum of VSAT solutions; from Enterprise VSAT to a range of consumer broadband solutions.

Paratus Telecom South Africa acquired a 100% share of Maxwell Technology (PTY) LTD in November 2015. Paratus Telecom South Africa, formerly known as “Ae Gams Internet Services “and later as Maximum Networks (PTY) Ltd, was established in 2006 as a South African carrier provider for the Paratus Telecom Group, allowing various African countries to gain access to South African content and Undersea Cable Systems, like SEACOM.

Maxwell has historically provided connectivity solutions in un- and under-serviced areas using VSAT solutions as a connectivity solution.  Un- and under-serviced areas in South Africa are defined as areas where terrestrial infrastructure is either nonexistent or does not provide the required connectivity bandwidth options.  VSAT connectivity is also a great solution in these areas where copper or infrastructure theft has a major impact.  Maxwell was one of the first entities that, in 2009, partnered with Skyvine, a Qkon and Eliies initiative using the New Dawn Satellite, for the provision of consumer based broadband internet solutions to rural under-serviced areas.

Maxwell extended the services offering in 2012 by partnering with Avanti for the provision of new high throughput KA band VSAT solutions across the whole of South Africa. As Avanti was not licensed in SA, the delivery of these services required Maxwell to be in possession of the required IECNS and IECS licenses – which it was.

Since the acquisition of Maxwell by Paratus South Africa, services offerings have been expanded extensively.  Maxwell has become a services aggregator and as such signed partnerships / last mile connectivity solutions with Internet Solutions, Bitco, Openserve, xDSL, Comsol, MFN, Avanti, Liquid Telecom, and VO Connect.

Currently, services include L2 and L3 services on licensed frequencies via VO connect or Comsol, or Fiber via Openserve, xDSL, MFN, IS  Liquid or Bitco. For Layer 2 services Licensee terminates on Paratus South Africa infrastructure housed in both Teraco Isando and Rondebosch.  The Paratus infrastructure then connects back to the Paratus Group’s networks in Namibia, Zambia, Angola, Botswana and Mozambique.  ICASA has approved and licensed Licensee to build a licensed wireless link from South Africa to Gaberone, Botswana, which crosses the border at Kopfontein North West and will connect to the Paratus Group infrastructure in Botswana.
